As a Mainer for nearly five decades, Mike understands all too well the ever changing weather forecasts and surprises given the location and geography of the state. Spending much of his time as child outdoors fishing in all four seasons, keeping track of the weather was a must for personal safety. Living firsthand through the impacts of weather through many types of storms and phenomena, the idea came to mind for him to analyze it closer in 2011.
Thanks to training and advice from many professional meteorologists in the field, Mike began formulating his own forecasts and published them through Western Maine Weather over the past four years. He is a trained SKYWARN weather spotter through the National Weather Service office in Gray. Mike is a member of the National Weather Association.
Prior to weather tracking, Mike was director of media & community relations for the Lewiston MAINEiacs, and was a radio color analyst during their 2006-07 championship run. He also worked with the Portland Pirates in various capacities from 1993-1996. Mike’s voice was heard on radio stations in the Portland area prior to that as a DJ and producer. He was a chef working in various southern Maine restaurants, hotels, and inns for 14 years.
When he is not forecasting weather, Mike enjoys photography cooking, hiking, and working with people with substance abuse problems. He also is the public address announcer at Hyde School athletic events, and volunteers as an alumni parent. Mike lives in Poland Spring, with his wife Theresa, and daughters Maryssa & Kayla.
